Before applying for a job, you need to think about what kind of cruise ship job you want to have and what are the real chances of getting it.
Apply for a specific job. Don't send an application for any cruise ship job available. You must present yourself as a professional in a certain area. Nobody can do everything perfectly, recruitment agents and cruise lines know it and so they will not accept your application for a cruise ship employment if it is not job-specific.
Make a research on the Internet (e.g. Free Guide to Cruise Line Jobs), your local public library, bookshops, etc. and get as much information about the cruise lines as possible. Perhaps you will be asked about your future employer, the cruise line, at the interview. If you know something about the company, you will impress the recruiter.
Write a good resume. Don't just list the activities you have done since you were born.
Your resume is your advertisement. Its purpose is to sell you to the recruitment agent and get you a dream job on a cruise ship.
Send your resume along with a cover letter to recruitment agents or cruise line companies. Highlight the most important points in the covering letter, briefly state what makes you a great candidate for the position.
Some cruise ship jobs are advertised on major job boards. Our recommendation is this Cruise Ship Jobs Board where you can see dozens of current jobs on cruise ships and apply for them. The best bit is that unlike other similar sites, thise one is genuine and free!
If the cruise lines are looking for a person of your qualities, education and experience, you will be invited for the interview. The interviewer will try to find out about your experience, abilities, education, and motivation for the job.
If you are successful, you will get the Letter of Employment some time after the interview. The letter of employment includes the information about the cruise ship you will be working on, the date and place of embarkation, your job position and other useful instructions.
New employees on cruise ships usually sign 6-months contracts, which can be extended to 10 months. A compulsory break from 6 to 8 weeks follows. If your work results have been satisfactory, you will be offered another contract after the break.
